Helistrand, Inc. was established in Santa Barbara, California, in 1972. Rudy Gomez joined the business in 1976, bringing extensive knowledge of wire extrusion and a meticulous approach to manufacturing. His expertise helped guide Helistrand’s transition into electrical wire production and established the technical foundation on which the company continues to operate.

Rudy’s children grew up alongside the business. Anthony began working summer jobs at Helistrand in 1978 and joined the company full time after college in 1981. John started by sweeping floors and winding bobbins before learning extrusion, fabrication, equipment design, production, and operations. Anna joined the company in 1985 and built her career in its administrative and financial operations.

Today, Anthony, Anna, and John lead Helistrand together, carrying forward their father’s commitment to customer service, quality manufacturing, realistic lead times, and responsiveness when customers face an urgent need.

The Gomez family is supported by a deeply experienced team, including employees who have worked at Helistrand for decades. Together, they manufacture specialized high-temperature wire and cable sold through qualified distributors.

Manufacturing Capabilities

Helistrand combines specialized equipment with decades of manufacturing experience to produce high-temperature wire and cable in standard and custom constructions. Our capabilities support both short and long production runs for demanding applications.

Extrusion

Insulation for primary wire and jacketing for single- and multi-conductor cables using high-temperature FEP, PFA, and ETFE resins.

Twisting and Cabling

Single conductors can be twisted or cabled into multi-conductor constructions using twinners and planetary cabling equipment.

Braided and Foil Shielding

Braided shielding is available in tin-coated copper, silver-coated copper, nickel-coated copper, and stainless steel. Foil shielding is also available for applicable cable constructions.

Tape-Wrapped Jackets

TFE tape wrapping and heat-sealed jackets are available for cables requiring high-temperature performance.

Striping and Printing

Identification striping and printing can be applied to many high-temperature insulation materials, including ETFE, cross-linked ETFE, PTFE, PFA, and Kynar® (also called PVDF — polyvinylidene fluoride).

Custom Production

We manufacture light- and heavy-wall insulation, composite cables, radiation-resistant constructions, and other wire and cable built to customer specifications.
